Faat Kine

A sembene film written and directed in 2000 by Ousmane Sembene. The film shines a light on post-colonial although not explained to a great extent however it is woven into the narrative.

Summery:

Faat Kine was a successful gas station her two children urge her and Uncle jean to start a relationship however Uncle jean was very Christian and did not want to date a muslim however this did not stop him from fancying her. As for Kine’s past that she thought of constantly she has had two pregnacys out of wedlock one from her professors and then again by her fiance. When the first pregnancy occurred her father disowned and shunned her. The father tried to burn her but her mother protected her but got burnt in the process. As for the second pregnancy she took all the money she had and left the country. After that she became successful with a house, a gas station, and her two children graduating high school. Present day they have a party for the celebration of graduation for both girls. The girls fathers came to the party but did not stay for long. Aby asks her father to fund her college years however M. Gaye was offended and would not consider it. The two fathers after an incident are asked to leave in which they did. After the party the two girls find out their mother and uncle jean were a happy couple.
